Coimbatore is a city in India located in the southeast in Tamil Nadu state. The city is home to nearly 2 million people.
The city is the district administrative center and the junction of rail lines linking the East and West coasts of India. A huge marketplace, the common staples bought and sold include tea, cotton, teak, cardamom, and chinchona. There are also manufacturing plants that process foods, cotton, and transport equipment. It is also well-connected by road and air.

Coimbatore has a history of being a major center for higher education since the early 1900s. Coimbatore boasts an agricultural University, a number of government and private engineering colleges, two medical colleges, and a number of science and arts colleges.
